Retrieve one complete registry trial document by its registry id, including ALL update_logs, eligibility criteria, officials, contacts, facilities, resolved entities, and the resolved PI -> OpenAlex researcher links in data.researchers (each row has author_key, name, match_tag, h_index; author_key is directly usable as pi_author_id in the registry search). For a graph-enriched lookup by NCT id you can also use clinical.trial-details. List and sample responses never include researcher links - this endpoint is how you close the trial -> its PI -> that PI's other trials chain. If data.researchers is empty, this trial's PI is not resolved yet: report the gap or use another trial / a user-supplied id; do not fetch more trials hunting for an id.
When to use it
- full record for one trial by NCT id
- eligibility criteria, facilities, officials or update history for a trial
- get a trial's resolved PI OpenAlex author_key to then list that PI's other trials
